Stories & Poems About War
Happy Birthday, Marine!
The band of warriors gathered, Some young, some
not-so-young,
some old. With scars of war upon their
bodies; And scars of war upon their souls. Fierce pride burned
hot within their eyes, As their haunting hymn was
played - They saw battles past in memory's eye,
And bowed their heads and prayed.
Gathered together on this sacred day; To commemorate the Birthday
of their Corps - They recall with reverence,
those who fell, In all our country's wars. With 'Corps and
Country', etched in steel, upon each beating heart -
Each had served with honor; Each one had done their part.
Some had served in China -
fought at the 'Canal or Peleliu;
Some had served on Chosin's slopes;
When the 'First' came fighting through!
Some had known the loneliness,
Of a hundred remote posts;
Some carried memories of Vietnam - And armed landings on distant
Asian coasts. And veterans of Beirut,
Grenada, Panama - And Operation Desert Storm; Also stood, with
humble
pride, On this sacred Birthday Morn.
Across the world this celebration
Is replayed each and every year;
To attend a Birthday function,
Marines will come from far and near.
Legions who stood for Freedom's cause
In shades of Forest Green;
Will hoist a glass to one another -
and say:
Happy
Birthday, Marine!
