Stories & Poems About War

Korea…Fifty Years And Holding

Fifty years may have past…

But memories of Korea will forever last.
Ask any veteran of that war…

They’ll tell you stories of heroism and horror.

Thousands of Americans shed their blood…

Fighting the enemy in snow and mud…

They fought from hilltops and valleys below…

And suffered huge losses from an overpowering foe.

They gave their lives for a people to be free…

So they could live like you and me.

Over 36,000 of our soldiers were lost…

Which critics would say was too high a cost!

Today a parallel divides that land…

Separating freedom from a ruling hand…

A fragile truce has held through time…

Supported by troops to hold the line.

And those that served in that brutal war…

Will never forget the pain they bore!

But worst of all, when the troops came home…

They were greeted indifferent and felt alone.

So let’s remember those that served…

And honor those that can’t be heard!

And for the men we lost somehow…

We need to think of them and bow.

5,000 strong were left behind…

Which haunts a soldier for all time!

The Korean War seems far away…

But to those that served…it’s like yesterday!
