Stories & Poems About War

I Didn’t Want To Cry…

I didn’t want to cry…

When I held her close to me…

And whispered in her ear…

“That I’m helping folks be free”.

I didn’t want to cry…

When she took my hand to feel…

The movement of our child…
Which her joy could not conceal!

I didn’t want to cry…

When her tears began to flow…

As she touched my rugged face…
And refused to let me go!

I didn’t want to cry…

When she looked into my eyes…

And said, “Come back to me…

My proud and faithful guy!”

I didn’t want to cry…

When I kissed her lips once more…

And told her that I loved her…

As I headed off to war!

But then the tears rolled down my face…

As I slowly walked away…

And I never tried to hide them…

For I knew it was ok!
