How LtCol. James Vanairsdale got in Fox Company


When I left Easy Co. Bill Barnes took my platoon.  I was asked which job I wanted
Legal or Liaison. That was easy so I was liaison to regiment.  When I would see
the platoon they would ask, "How do you get a pogue job like that, Lieutenant?"
That actually hurt my conscience.  At LtCol Gregory's birthday party (martinis
in C Rat cans) I told him I would extend for three months if he would put me back in
a rifle company.  He said sure-I haven't had a martini since.

The second battalion went into reserve south of the Imjin River.  

I looked up Bill Barnes to see how the platoon was doing.  

At the same time I 'found' a fifth of Scotch.  The Easy
skipper, Capt. Rose, told Bill to check his platoon before getting loaded. We
decided on having just one drink-- finished off the bottle.  Capt. Rose was mad as hell at
me! I didn't force the guy to drink!   Anyway Rose said that no way was I
(actually "that son of a bitch") going to get back into Easy.  Meantime Fox
needed an XO so..............

I know, boring, but that is the rest of the story.
