Waiting behind OP Vegas on the night of Mar. 28,
1953 and watching what was one of the worst bombardments I had ever seen.
Knowing that in just a few minutes we would be on our way out there, was quite
an experience!! On reaching Vegas, lost many friends, and remember reaching Cpl.
Serio Ricci when he was mortally wounded, and not being able to help him. I
remember Capt. Rodney hollering: Dig! Dig! Dig! It is amazing just how much you
can dig with a small entrenching tool!! Being with a great bunch of guys in
E/2/7/ was wonderful. Would serve again with the Marines as a Corpsman,
anytime!!
I remember getting my orders to Fleet Marine Force,
Camp Pendelton, CA. I was a Corpsman and I thought that
I would get sea duty after my tour of duty at the
Naval Medical Center, Bethsda. Arriving at Camp Del Mar at
Oceanside, CA.. I knew that my destination would
eventually be Korea. Making a Marine out of a Navy
Corpsman was no easy task. However, the regimentation was
not so bad and I really enjoyed the task!! On the way to
Korea aboard the Gen Nelson M. Walker, I had no idea
what awaited me on arrival in Korea! Being assigned to
Easy Company was a blessing for me. It was a great
outfit and the experience was something that will stay
with me for a lifetime! I am proud to have served with
Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines
