United States Marine Corps Subject: U.S. Marines Birthplace Memorial, Tun Tavern 7 January 2006 Dear fellow Marines: This letter is to inform you and your group about the U.S. Marines Birthplace Memorial. We are going to build in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania near the original location of Tun Tavern which is in Penn’s Landing, by the Delaware River. As you know Tun Tavern is the original and official birthplace of the USMC, 10 November 1775. Included in this letter is our web site address for you to review and pass on to the other members of your group. We are hoping to get Marines like you from all over the world to get involved, help, and donate to the Memorial. Please pass this letter on to other Marines and add our web page link to yours. Please contact me through the web site anytime with your comments, questions and ideas. Thank you. www.USMarinesBirthplace.com  Semper Fi, Michael L. Emerson Memorial Originator and Project Manager

My first assignment as a field corpsman was in late-'74, at Pendleton, when I was temporarily assigned to B 2/7. This was between the 1973 "truce" in the RVN and Operations' "Frequent Wind" and "Eagle Pull," so I'm sad to say I probably offered little in way of service to the men of 2/7. It was significant that I was introduced to the FMF through the Seventh Marines, however: My corpsman father was a member of lstMarDiv., during "Iceberg" (the invasion of the Ryukyus), and George 3/7 from the first weeks after Chosin to early-'52. An inactive-reserve veteran with prior wartime service and the father of two children, he wasn't required to report for duty in Korea, but did so willingly--probably eagerly. My mother's recollection went like this: "Your dad didn't have to volunteer for Korea, but he went anyway, when they asked him. You know how he felt about the Marines, and hell or high water wouldn't keep him from going anywhere with them." My old man was as proud as can be when I reported to Seventh more than thirty years ago, and judging by regimental history, I can fully understand why. If you're looking for WWII vets of the regiment, you might try inquiring aboard the Dog 2/7 Korean War page (moderator George Crotts). It's likely there still are some WWII vets out there, and the Dog page might be in a position to link you up. Thanks for sharing your great webpage. Brings back memories I'd long thought I'd forgotten.

Difficult to say how many times I'd heard " CORPSMAN UP " ! Most of the time didn't need to be told the obvious. All too often there wasn't time to think 'YGBSM' because s4^t always happened fast. Never saw two days alike 'cuz we were always moving. Ambushes, booby traps, and sniper to more the conventional war at the DMZ, I took solace from the fact that these Marines were the best of the best. You needed to know that when conditions went insane. The best duty a "squid" can ever get, thanks gentlemen ! Semper Fi, doc

A bedtime story for Bin Ladin One day a man decided to marry a Moslem woman. He found out that he needed to convert himself into Islam before he could marry her. So he went to find out what that entailed. When he found out, he had lots of questions. He felt that Islam and its prophets had no right to make such claims. He wanted to tell the prophet himself that the Koran was just a Fairy tale passed on from generation to generation. He really loved the woman so he pretended to embrace Islam. Then he married the woman at her Islamic church. After a while he taught her all about the Christian religion. The woman began to see that the Koran was just a story. She soon found comfort in Christ. They found that they had to keep their beliefs to themselves. They moved to a part of the world that accepted them as Christians and were remarried in The Name of Christ. They soon had several children and raised them as Christians.

Second try in getting guestbook successful. I would like to correspond with Korean War veterans (and veterans of the WW2 European Theatre)who would be willing to proofread a chapter or two of a novel I'm working on. I need to improve accuracy and believability while maintaining a blend of fiction and historical facts. Fred mrgsd@hiwaay.net
