Tribute to United States Marine Corps

Marines in Korea Not Being Recognized

Many years have gone by and I still remember the 1st Marine Division in Korea, it was June 10th 1953 and the Chinese launched a 120,000 man attack on a dark night, I was in a Combat Engineer Unit, 14th Combat Engineer Battalion www.14thceb.com  we were in a valley just on the south side of the Imjin river when this attack began. The 1st Marine Division had been pulled from the front and placed behind us to rest and repair their equipment.

A boy that I was raised with and played ball and went to school together with was in the 1st Marine Division, 1st Shore Party that night, they moved up thru our area and went straight into battle. His name was Glenn R. Watson and was one of 12 children, when the battle had toned down somewhat I asked my communications Sgt who was a friend of mine to see if he could get Glenn on the field telephone (he laughed at me said no way would we find him) however believe it or not in about an hour he had Glenn on the phone, needless to say I was a happy camper. Glenn was scared to death he wondered who in the world was calling him on a field telephone in the middle of Korea.

So what I am trying to say is I and my buddies might not be around today if it had not been for you Marines that dark night in Korea. I hold the Marines in high esteem to this very day.

By the way Glenn is still alive and well and we touch base now and then, he lives in the town where I was raised and graduated from school there.

                                                                                   My best regards
